ABOUT IMOMSOHARD
#IMOMSOHARD began as a popular web-series by real-life best friends, comedians, and moms Kristin and Jen. One night, over a glass of wine and many tears of frustration, these two friends decided to tell different kind of story. With a camera, two husbands, a babysitter, and bottomless mimosas, Kristin and Jen decided to speak openly about their fears and failures and prove that the only way to survive motherhood is through laughter and friendship. Good thing because, while shooting the first video for the series, Jen forgot her newborn daughter’s name. The video was a smash hit, sparking an online community of 2 million of the most engaged followers that social media has ever seen, confirmation that moms and women everywhere needed to laugh and to be heard. Kristin and Jen followed up with weekly videos about all things woman and mother: hemorrhoids, nipple hair, sex after marriage, mom bods, spanks, wedding dresses, and swimsuits. (Yes, they wore them on camera). Both women write and produce the #IMSH series with a common goal: Maybe we can make you feel better about the job you’re doing if you see the terrible job we’re doing. The videos have received nearly 300 million views worldwide in just 5 years. The phenomenon that Kristin and Jen created has since been nabbed for development by Warner Brothers TV. The comedians have sold-out two national tours, written a New York Times Best Selling book, landed branded deals with Fortune 100 companies such as Wal-Mart and Uni-Lever, and taped a standup comedy special for Amazon Prime Video, launching the network’s first standup comedy platform. They have recently premiered their weekly podcast and a children’s book series with Harper Collins. Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley are both based in Los Angeles and can often be found selling pizza slices for the PTA or working as parking enforcement at school drop off.

A hairstylist by trade turned personality, writer, comedian, and entertainer by life. Jonathan is seeking to celebrate authenticity and uniqueness within the beauty and entertainment industry as an HIV+ nonbinary truth teller, Jonathan is determined to make this world a better, more equitable yet funnier place. As a true multi-hyphenate, Jonathan Van Ness is doing the most with his time by performing his sold-out stand up comedy on tour, being an award-winning television personality, starting a sustainable haircare brand, being a New York Times best-selling author, practicing his gymnastics & figure skating skills, and having a podcast. There’s also the garden, chickens, cats, and dogs that he takes care of with his husband Mark, whom he married in 2020. Don’t let Jonathan near an adoption center, because he will leave with another cat (or two).

Always a story-teller, Jonathan first stepped in front of the camera in 2013, while doing his friend, actress and director Erin Gibson’s hair, an impromptu recap of the television show Game Of Thrones sparked the idea for what soon became the hit web series Gay of Thrones for web comedy outlet Funny or Die. The series later went on to be nominated three times for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series. In 2015, Van Ness took his constant curiosities about the world and turned them into a podcast, Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness, which has grown to amass over 250 episodes covering topics ranging from oceanography, hair science and the environment to comedy, olympics and more. It has also won multiple awards but honestly who’s counting?

As of 2018, Jonathan has been a member of the new Fab Five in Netflix’s reboot of Queer Eye as the show’s grooming expert. It introduces a sustainable, cruelty-free line of haircare products with a non-gendered approach, built for every person and all hair types, expanding on his platform of acceptance and equality. Jonathan hosts and executive produces his first solo network series, Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness on Netflix, which premiered in January 28, 2022.
